It's nearly summer...

Summer has already arrived in some parts and is on its way to the rest (according to the calendar). Who has big plans for the summer?

So, Who Cares If I Call Myself a Naturist?

So, Who Cares If I Call Myself a Naturist?:

An interesting quote from Arizonavichi…

I've written before that this need that some have to carefully demarcate a line between nudism and naturism is about the most boring aspect of naturism. Naturist Lens casts that silliness aside with his first sentence, and calls out the folks who want to weed out the impure:

[T]here is this thing that more than a few nudists believe about what exactly constitutes a nudist. There are those who declare themselves "true" nudists because their life circumstances allow them the luxury of living nude as many hours of the day that they desire to be nude, preferably, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Anything less is looked down upon

A few updates

Hello everyone!

We’ve just implemented a few updates and changes to the site. Most notably, all of the regional listings have been consolidated onto a single page, so now you can see all of the listings at a glance (by the way, if you haven’t suggested any of your preferred venues, please do so!). The “WORLD LISTINGS” link at the top of the page will take you straight there.

The other change is that we have altered the links to the other pages on the site, which are still located along the side. Some pages have been retired. Let us know if anything isn’t linking correctly. Have a wonderful day, everyone!

In the media, men have been taught we should be built like an action figure, and hung like a fire-hose. The ultimate male form is one that is 5'10", all muscles and penis.

The Wholesome Naturist: Male Body Image

Let us reintroduce ourselves.

First of all, thank you for taking the time and the attention to find Nurba and for spending a moment trying to think a bit differently. We appreciate it and we hope that we’re able to push you in a new direction.

Of course, we encourage you browse our site and discover whatever information you find interesting, but we also want to introduce ourselves to you again and let you know why we’re here in the first place. Nurba is not concerned with promoting nudism, per se. We promote body acceptance and the idea of naked-friendliness, which of course are in line with many of the tenets of the lifestyles of nudism and naturism. We love nudism and naturism, of course, but that’s not what we’re here for: we want you to be comfortable in your own skin and with your own body, because you’re human and you deserve to be human.

Too many people are so uncomfortable with themselves and with their bodies that they are afraid to take their clothes off in even the most private places. Rethink the way you treat yourself. Society has come to institutionalize a rejection of human nature in favor of a fabricated exterior mask. Clothes are nice, but not always necessary. They hide our bodies from the elements and they hide our human nature from other humans.

Throughout our website, our tumblr, our twitter and our gallery, you can find ideas and thoughts surrounding nakedness in the urban environment and through an urban mindset. Peruse, if you wish, and see what suits you. If you like what you find, internalize it. If you don’t like it, that’s fine, you can move on. At least you took a moment to think differently for a moment and we hope that at the very least we have helped you feel more tolerant and accepting of the desires of others to be the humans they were born to be.

Let’s be humans together. Urban humans.

"

It's not a silly title. It's about using your brain to realize that you've been taught to believe that your vagina or your penis was dirty, and it's not; that your back fat doesn't look quite right, or that your chest is a little too small or that your butt is droopy, and that therefore you don't deserve to know what it feels like to have wind flow through your tiniest little hairs or to have sunlight warm your neglected skin.

It's about remembering that you're a human and you deserve to be at least human.

"

You promote the idea of being one with nature as though it is something you can achieve by following a certain set of actions or buying a membership to certain clubs. You were born one with nature and were taught to forget. We are all already one with nature, we just have a nasty habit of not acting like it and pretending that it is possible to be above nature and to rule her. She doesn't owe us anything; she is not our slave. We belong to her and we owe her the decency to remember that.

So stop acting like such a prude. Let your hair fly free and your toes feel the earth and remind yourself where you came from.

Feeling Valentinesy?

Enough with all the chocolate (actually chocolate’s alright).

Have you tried a spa day?

(S/T)He(y)’ll love it.

Call for free advertising! (Not for us... for you, silly!)

We’re hoping to expand our regional venue listings and are searching for TWO things:

1. More hip, clothing-optional, naked-friendly or body-positive businesses, parks, services, classes, etc.

2. The opportunity to feature a special deal or advertisement for your business that your new customers can bring with them when they come to your venue in order to receive something such as a percentage off of a certain service, or a fee waived, etc.

And that’s all! We won’t charge you anything and we won’t charge our visitors anything. We’ll run your deal for a set period of time and we won’t be collecting any fees whatsoever… it’s just a service to our visitors.

Contact us at contactnurba@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Happy 2013

Welcome to another new year! Don’t fuck this one up (just kidding).

We would like to wish all of you a happy 2013, from the bottom of our feet. We’re looking forward to some cool things this year and we hope that you are as well.

Here are some of the things we would like to accomplish this year:

-A discount/coupon system for enjoying new and old-favorite naked-friendly venues.

-Additional resources and city highlight listings.

-A new playlist or five (coming soon!).

-Maybe some new merchandise or recommendations?

Let us know if you have any cool ideas. We would love to hear from you! But in any case, we do genuinely wish you a Happy New Year, and we hope you all had a great Chanukah, Solstice, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, New Year, etc. Now it’s time to get back to work, back to school, back to the grindstone (for those hunters and gatherers among us).

Keep in touch, and do whatever the fuck you want.

"It's funny, this idea of individuality that we seem to hold so dearly as a culture...."

"

It's funny, this idea of individuality that we seem to hold so dearly as a culture. What's funny about it is that it doesn't exist. In fact, we seem to have such an aversion to individuality that the sight of, or even the thought of, a human being not cloaked from head to toe in their culture disgusts us. The idea of someone who is not obviously and outwardly expressing the shared ideology causes a moral dilemma: we strive for individuality, but we cannot stand difference. We even go so far as to fetishize nakedness and foreignness for their difference from our shared culture, muddying what it really means to be an individual.

It is interesting, though, what it says about us as a culture when we find perversion in individuality, comfort in homogeneity and pride in claiming the opposite.

arizonavichi: Um, yeah. Just so y'all know, stuff like this...

arizonavichi:

Um, yeah.

Just so y'all know, stuff like this rarely works. It makes one look silly at best and alienates possible allies and shuts down any discussion. Invoking Dan White may be the San Francisco equivalent of Godwin's Law.

The poster and a demonstration at a holiday lighting were said by one activist to be "irking the right people." However:

"This is offensive", stated Supervisor Christina Olague, who voted no on the nudity ban legislation. She suggested that "personal attacks" were counterproductive. Olague had previously questioned the need for the nudity ban and said, "This is a solution looking for a problem".

Supervisor David Campos, who also voted no on the ban commented to the BAR that the conduct of Mr. Hightower was "reprehensible". Suggesting that the posters were politically incorrect, at the least, and deserving of rebuke, censure or other public admonishment. During a recent BOS meeting, Campos had challenged the need for a city-wide nudity ban to the chagrin of his colleague Wiener.

Italics mine. I thought the nudity at the board meeting made a point, but this makes the pro-nudity side look ridiculous.

Let's kill nudism.

Because we don’t need it. Because it only hinders progress. Because history has shown us that the original goal of nudism has run its course and has impacted society as much as it could. So let’s move on. Let’s not label ourselves with titles that shove us into boxes. Are you gay? Is your entire identity consumed with being attracted to people of the same gender? See? Labels are silly. The same is true with nudism. If your whole identity and personhood is all-consumed with being naked and nothing else matters to you, then you should probably calm the fuck down for a minute. There’s no such thing, really, as a person whose entire identity is wrapped up in one label.

So, we don’t need the title of nudist or naturist. But how do they hinder progress? Because separating ourselves into different groups, while it brings to light our individual causes, is, by its very nature, exclusionary. As soon as you draw a line between yourself and someone else, you’re excluding yourself from their group and you’re excluding them from your group. Even if you want to retain the title, you have to adjust it. One group never survived by restricting its membership to only those who were included on the first membership roster. Imagine if only white people were allowed to be Mormon still. Or imagine if white, heterosexual, upper-class women were the only ones allowed to be feminists. The groups would have died out by now. Progress cannot be made through exclusion. In the case of nudists, the excluded group is almost everyone, so who can possibly benefit?

So why should we kill nudism? Because everyone needs a broader outlook on their body and everyone should have the right to feel comfortable in their own skin, in their own body, without having to be part of some obscure group. Could we all not disseminate educational information, leaving behind the goal of pushing them into the cult of nudism? We can retain some selfless goal of just being open-minded people who care about people’s self esteem and wellbeing.

Maybe “kill” is a bit harsh, but it doesn’t do anyone any good to cling to the tenets of a movement that has more or less run its course, to the extent possible given the current state of the face of the movement itself. Let’s just get naked. Or not, because it doesn’t matter <3

Happy Givethanksing, America

We hope you all take a moment to spend time with your family and friends. And while you’re spiking grandma’s egg nog and sneaking extra glasses of wine, remember how lucky you are.

Sometimes we complain about the liberties we don’t have, which we very well should do because that’s how people effect change even in the “free” world, but sometimes it is still important to recognize the liberties we do have that so many others do not. Thanks, America, for health (yes!) and freedom and love and liquor. We’ll let you get back to your holiday festivities.

Be safe and be thankful, dammit.

"Identity is as fluid and as fickle as language. It must constantly be performed and re-performed in..."

"

Identity is as fluid and as fickle as language. It must constantly be performed and re-performed in order to move forward, and each changes slightly with each new performance. The acts you perform are as the words that you choose. And you can choose. And you don't have to always choose the same way, and you don't have to let anyone else force your choice, and not everyone has to understand. The problem with identity labels is that they assume a static identity, when in fact we change every day, every moment, the person we wish to be.

We simply hope that along your journey of evolving self discovery, we're able to provide a moment of enlightenment and an inspiring mirror through which to see yourself.

Chappy Cholidays/Chanukah/Christmas/Chwanzaa

Challoween is over, and the Cholidays are coming. (That’s Halloween and Holidays for those of you who take some time).

Welcome to your favorite/least favorite time of year. Just for you guys, we have updated our playlist with some upbeat holiday tunes… some classics, some remixes of classics and some all new, and everything in between. Dubstep Christmas? Maybe (yes). Brenda Lee. You bet your balls. That’s how we roll. The Maccabeats? Obviously.

We also hope that you’ve noticed our lovely red bows. That’s because we’re fucking festive. If we could put holiday lights on our site, we would. Trust us.

In any case. We hope you’re enjoying our little corner of cyber culture. Nake it. You’ll be hearing more from us soon.
